US guide, checked 2 September 2026
Applying to Oxbridge from a US high school
A US high-school student applies to Oxford or Cambridge through the UK’s central UCAS undergraduate application system.
Checked on 2 September 2026 against: UCAS how to apply, UCAS dates, Oxford applying, UCAT booking and UAT-UK.
Route and deadline
Register in the UCAS Hub, choose undergraduate study, complete the application and provide a reference before paying and sending it. For Oxford, Cambridge, and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary applications, UCAS must receive the completed form by 18:00 UK time on 15 October 2026 for 2027 entry.
Tests
The course determines the test. Relevant tests include UCAT for relevant medicine and dentistry courses, LNAT for Oxford Law, ESAT for Cambridge Engineering, Natural Sciences and related courses, and TMUA for Cambridge Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics. UCAT is delivered at Pearson test centres in the US and elsewhere. UAT-UK says ESAT and TMUA are taken at Pearson VUE Test Centres, with centres across its worldwide network.
Interviews
Oxford says shortlisted applicants for 2027 entry will be interviewed online in December 2026. Cambridge says interviews may be online or in person depending on the assessing College and course, and its international guidance can affect the format. Check the invitation for the actual arrangement.
